LiMA (Livestock Input Management Application)

Agriculture & Livestock

Project Overview

The LiMA system represents a transformative approach to agricultural input management, specifically designed to enhance the seed value chain through innovative technology. By leveraging existing industry structures, we created a unified cloud-based platform that digitized previously manual processes, enabling seamless coordination between all stakeholders. The system provides real-time access via web and mobile devices while generating comprehensive reports to guide ICIPE's oversight of collective efforts.

Project Scope

The project encompassed the development of a full-stack solution including: 1) Cloud infrastructure for nationwide scalability, 2) Android mobile applications tailored for farmers and Community Animal Health Officers, 3) A comprehensive web portal for producers and administrators, 4) SMS integration for users without smartphones, and 5) Advanced reporting tools for supply chain analytics. The system was specifically designed to address critical challenges in livestock health management across 47 Kenyan counties.

Key Outcomes

  • Improved livestock health outcomes through increased access to tsetse fly repellents and fungal pesticides
  • Enhanced agricultural productivity with reduction in input costs for smallholder farmers
  • Strengthened local value chains through digital integration of 1,000+ registered farmers
  • Streamlined ordering process with automated delivery alerts and purchase management
